Should You Use A Fiverr Review Exchange?

Getting your first sale and positive review as a new Fiverr seller is very rewarding, but can also take some time.

Seeing as how having even just one positive review looks much better than a new seller with no reviews at all, some new Fiverr sellers will consider trying a Fiverr review exchange.

Should you do this? Read on to find out.

What is a Fiverr review exchange?

Put simply, a Fiverr review exchange is a place that connects Fiverr sellers with other Fiverr sellers with the intent of purchasing each other’s gigs with the sole intention of leaving a positive review. These exchanges can exist on forums, Facebook groups, and other websites. You buy the gig of a new seller trying to build their reputation, leave them a review, and that seller will do the same for you.

It’s against Fiverr’s rules

One of the most obvious reasons not to take part in a review exchange is the fact that it’s against Fiverr’s rules. Here is how they state it in the Fiverr Terms of Service:

“To prevent any misuse of our Feedback system, all feedback reviews must come from legitimate sales executed exclusively through the Fiverr platform from users within our Community. Purchases arranged, determined to artificially enhance seller ratings, or to abuse the Fiverr platform with purchases from additional accounts, will result in a permanent suspension of all related accounts.”

But will I get caught?

Despite it being against Fiverr’s rules, you may be thinking “it’s no big deal as they have no way of finding out.” Well, Fiverr certainly can find out, and do you want to risk permanently losing your account because of it? I have seen it myself when browsing gigs, odd review patterns, one seller reviewing another seller who offers the exact same service.

If I can notice it, Fiverr certainly can. All it takes is for them to discover one account abusing the review system, and they could potentially see all the related accounts who availed of this service. They have a team who monitors these types of users and selling patterns. Even easier for them to identify is if you leave the reviews yourself using a second Fiverr account (also against the rules.) Do you really want to leave your Fiverr future up to chance like this? Imagine losing all the hard work of growing your account to a Level 1 or Level 2 and being shut down because you took part in abuse of the review system.

Fiverr’s review system benefits us all

Fiverr has its review system in place for a reason. It is to build trust, connect buyers with quality sellers, and ensure the site keeps a good reputation. If buyers are being misled into buying poor quality services, this is bad news for Fiverr’s future. As sellers, we want people to hold Fiverr in high regard. To assure this, integrity of the review system is crucial.

You may not even have to seek out a review exchange to engage in this. Sometimes, you may receive messages from new sellers on Fiverr asking you to engage in exchanging reviews. Not only should you not do this, you should report the user to Fiverr for a Terms of Service violation. You may not be comfortable doing this, but if we are to preserve the integrity of Fiverr and depend on it to make our full or part-time income, we need to ensure that all sellers are being honest.

How do I get my first review?

I’ve made it clear that I do not recommend using review exchanges. So, you may be asking, how do you get your first review? We’ve all been there. It can take time, but you will get your first sale – and hopefully a glowing 5-star review. After your first positive review, it should be easier to gain additional sales.

To get your first sale and positive review, I recommend:

  • Ensuring sure your gigs and profile are optimized to draw in a purchase from any potential buyer who finds you.
  • Sharing your gig(s) with friends, family, and acquaintances on social networks such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn.
  • Check the Buyer Requests section and apply for any relevant jobs.
  • Find someone who can legitimately use your service. A good place to look is, if you have been freelancing before Fiverr, a previous client who may require your work again.

Feel good about being honest

Starting your Fiverr career off on the right foot, with honesty and integrity, is a great step towards ensuring a great experience for both you and your buyers. Conversely, lying and misleading buyers with fake reviews is unethical and these do not reflect the values of a quality seller.

Have integrity with everything you do on Fiverr and you’re sure to see great results!
